Advisory & Coaching
Two subtle, but important roles. Both designed to support you in career growth.
Coaching and Advising: What's the Difference?
Most people arrive here knowing they want something — they're just not always sure what kind of help they're actually looking for. That's worth a moment's thought.
There are two ways to work together. One is a focused conversation with a specific question at the center. The other is sustained support through something bigger.
Advisory
Sometimes what you need isn't an ongoing relationship — it's a focused conversation with someone who understands organizational systems, career development, and the realities of managing mental health at work. You bring the question. I bring the expertise. You leave knowing what to do next.

Coaching
Coaching is for the questions that don't have a single answer — where the real work is building self-awareness, finding a sustainable direction, and having a consistent thinking partner as things shift. It's not more serious than Advisory, it just covers more ground.

Advisory vs. Coaching: What's Right For Me?
The terms can often be used interchangeably - but they both serve different purposes and roles in one's career development. Here's some FAQ with Dr. Caroline.
What's the difference between an advisor and a coach?
Advisory is built around a specific question or decision point — you come in with something concrete, and you leave with a clear direction. Coaching is built around a longer arc — a transition, a pattern, a bigger shift you're working through over time.
If you're not sure which one fits, a good rule of thumb: if you can name the question, it's probably Advisory. If the question keeps changing as you dig into it, that's Coaching.
How would a coaching session differ from an advisory session?
An advisory session is a focused conversation with a specific destination. You arrive with a question or task — a mock interview, preparing for an annual review, getting advice on a specific work situation — and we work through it together. You leave with a clearer sense of what to do next. It's contained by design.
A coaching session is different in structure and purpose. We're not just answering a question, we're building something. There's more reflection involved, more looking at patterns over time, and more space for thinking that doesn't resolve in a single sitting. The work compounds across sessions in a way that a single advisory conversation isn't designed to do.
Neither is better. They're just built for different moments.
What if I'm not sure which one is right for me?
If you're weighing your options and want a little guidance before committing to anything, book a free 15-minute consult. We'll talk through what you're navigating and I'll give you my honest take on what kind of support actually makes sense for your situation. No pressure, no pitch — just a real conversation to help you figure out your next step.
Can I start with an advisory session and then switch to coaching, or vice versa?
Yes, and it happens more often than you might expect. A lot of people come in for a resume review or a specific question, and somewhere in that conversation it becomes clear there's something bigger they want to work through. That's a natural place to transition into coaching.
It works the other way too — coaching clients sometimes return later with a specific question or challenge that's better suited to a single focused session.
Both are priced the same hourly, so there's no financial barrier to moving between them. You're not locked into anything.
Is Career Wavelength Right for You?
There's no perfect moment to start working on your career. But there are better and harder moments, and it's worth being honest with yourself about where you are before committing to anything.
Yes, this is for you if you:
Have enough capacity right now to reflect, make decisions, and take some action — even small steps — between sessions
Want career guidance that accounts for your whole self, not just your resume
Are ready to do some work, even if you don't have it all figured out yet
Are curious about what a different approach to your career might look like
Book a consultation first if you:
Are in a particularly hard season — elevated symptoms, significant life disruption, or financial stress that makes any new commitment feel overwhelming
Aren't sure yet whether you're ready to take action
Have concerns about cost or timing
Want to ask questions before committing to anything
This may not be the right time if you:
Are in crisis and need immediate clinical support — please reach out to a mental health professional first
Are looking for guaranteed job placement or resume writing services
Want career coaching with no discussion of how mental health and work intersect
Need a job within days or weeks to avoid immediate financial crisis
Financial Assistance
Cost is a real barrier for a lot of people — and often for the same people who would benefit most from this kind of support. That's not lost on me.
Sliding scale coaching is available on a case-by-case basis for those experiencing financial hardship. Every request is reviewed individually, and while assistance can't be guaranteed for every applicant, if cost is the thing standing between you and getting started, please don't let it stop you from reaching out.
Practical Questions
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes — there's a complimentary 15-minute consultation available before you commit to anything. It's a real conversation, not a sales call. We'll talk through what you're navigating and whether this is actually a good fit. If it's not, I'll tell you that too.
How do sessions work?
All sessions are conducted virtually via Zoom, which makes scheduling around your energy a lot more practical than commuting to an office would. Sessions are conversational — you don't need to prepare anything specific or show up with a polished agenda. We work with wherever you actually are that day.
Do you accept insurance?
No — career coaching isn't covered by health insurance. However, if your employer offers a professional development budget, that's worth checking into. Career coaching is a legitimate professional development expense and some employers will cover it.
How do I know if I need career coaching or therapy?
If you're managing significant mental health symptoms, processing trauma, or need clinical support, therapy is the right starting point — and I'd encourage you to prioritize that. Career coaching works best when you have enough capacity to focus on the practical and strategic side of your work life.
That said, coaching and therapy aren't mutually exclusive. A lot of people do both simultaneously — working with a therapist on the deeper stuff and a coach on the career piece. If you're not sure which applies to you right now, the free consultation is a good place to figure that out.
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Life happens, and I get that — especially when you're managing a condition where some days are just harder than expected. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance and we'll find a time that works better.
For cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, the session is forfeited — but you're welcome to reschedule rather than lose it entirely. All purchases are non-refundable, so if you're unsure about timing, the free consultation is a good place to start before committing.
Not sure where to start?
Book a FREE 15-minute consultation, and we can figure it out together.
